Establish marketing foundations, with strategy, messaging, and hiring support

Compact Membrane Systems (now Ardent) reached out to me after raising a Series A to commercialize their advanced membrane solution for industrial carbon capture. A strong team of engineers and operators, they lacked in-house marketing expertise and were looking for help to define their marketing strategy, lead a rebrand and relaunch effort, and help them build awareness and credibility in the market.

As their fractional CMO, I led quarterly strategy sessions to define and revise marketing strategy in a rapidly evolving market, took over the rebrand and brought in a new design agency to complete it, coordinated key integrated campaigns around the brand relaunch and carbon capture pilots, and helped hire and onboard full-time marketing staff to meet their long term goals.

Develop content strategy

Pachama, a seed-stage startup seeking to address climate change by using remote sensing and AI to verify and promote forest restoration, wanted to develop a content strategy to help them tell their brand story and better explain their offering to customers. I worked with them to:

  • Plan and facilitate a content strategy workshop

  • Identify top content priorities and develop a content calendar

Define messaging and positioning for a new offering

When Placement decided to create a new offering that would make their job search tools and expertise available to anyone, I worked closely with the co-founders to:

  • Gather and synthesize research about what their customers value

  • Clarify the value and key messaging for each customer segment

  • Craft messaging and content for the new website

Plan product onboarding

DemandStar, a network that connects governments directly with suppliers to make procurement more efficient, came to me to plan onboarding emails. As part of this project, I:

  • Spoke with stakeholders to understand the customer journey and painpoints

  • Analyzed existing customer conversion data

  • Assessed existing email campaigns

  • Planned email campaign to influence new users to complete key tasks

  • Drafted email copy and specified qualification criteria
